Jawahar Tunnel

The tunnel that kept the Valley connected in winter.

For centuries snow closed the passes into the Valley every winter. The Jawahar Tunnel, opened in 1956 beneath the Banihal pass, gave the road from Jammu a way through the Pir Panjal that could stay open far more of the year.
