Built with French engineering in two stages, the first to Kongdoori in 1998 and the second to the Apharwat ridge in 2005, the gondola lifts visitors to about 3,980 metres. It turned Gulmarg into a winter sports destination, and in summer it carries walkers up to meadows and snowfields above the treeline.
Facts
- The upper station is high enough that snow lies near it well into summer.
